"It seems to me that the good life is not any fixed state. The good life is a process, not a state of being. It's a direction, not a destination." - Carl Rogers
"Now what?!" This is often a question asked by some clients as it relates to the "in-between"- end of session and the next time we'll meet again. Psychotherapy, or Talk Therapy commonly known as, has shown to increase mental health wellness which expands out to general overall wellness in many forms. But is there room to add to ways of self-care? I say yes! Whereas I encourage practicing learned skills introduced in therapy, I also encourage exploration of self, and additional ways to guide you in your journey towards happiness and wellness. What can that look like?
Below are additional forms of therapy that research suggest can improve wellness of mind, body, and spirit.
Holistic and Natural Healing Approaches to Wellness in addition to Evidence-based Talk Therapy:
ACUPRESSURE THERAPY
AROMATHERAPY
HERBAL THERAPY
HOMEOPATHY
HYDROTHERAPY
IMAGERY: picture yourself perfectly healthy
JUICE THERAPY
MASSAGE
REFLECOLOGY
RELAXATION AND MEDITATION
SOUND THERAPY
VITAMIN AND MINERAL THERAPY
YOGA
I, myself, initially was hesitant to readily accept potential benefits of holistic and natural forms of therapy. I mean, "Juice Therapy"?! One statement I often find myself quoting is "Don't knock it until you've tried it.". Authenticity is a value to try to live by, so why not be authentic to my own advice?
Final thoughts:
Knowing just a little bit about holistic and natural forms of therapy can go a long way in helping you succeed in your journey of wellness. Whereas I did not "take" to all previously mentioned approaches, I was able to successfully connect with those that resonated with my own personal goals specific to each journey I chose to explore. My question to you- what is your direction?
Here's to wellness- therapy style!
